GAASPERPLASROUTE

1 - 2 HRS | 5.4 KM | 10 M | GAASPERPLASROUTE [ROUND TRIP]

At the map, just underneath Amsterdam, where the city on the south-east side turns into green lands, you find the recreational area Gaasperplas. From the capital, this place is easy to reach by car, bicycle or even the metro. The equally named metro station is literally situated next to the water. The artificially created recreational lake and park has been a luxury for the residents of the neighbourhood since the 1960s, but is also large enough in size for a nice short hike.

From the main entrance (which is next to the metro station) you walk straight into the Gaasperpark on the north side of the lake. From here you can walk a full lap around the lake by simply following the main path. It takes you about an hour and a half to complete the entire route, while almost continuously maintaining a view over the water. In this way you get to see all different possible views over the lake.

Around Gaasperplas

During your hike along the Gaasperplas you will get to know a striking variety of flowers and plants that can yield beautiful pictures. The route also introduces you to all the recreational opportunities around the lake. You will walk past a marina, a canoe rental, a windsurfing association, an indoor playground and several sunbathing areas and beaches. Interesting to now, not only fish is swimming in the Gaasperplas but also avid sportsmen.

However, there are different types of fish in the water. Think of eel, pike, perch, zander, roach and tench. Another beast that has made the puddle its home is the crayfish.

A nice short walk

During a hike around the lake you will notice that the ravages of time have struck here and there. You can’t miss that the park and lake already exists for over forty years. But, plans to restore it and make it even more attractive ore are now being made.

This way, this recreation area can retain its appeal to Amsterdam residents and recreants from the region. Because the Gaasperplas is an excellent location for a short walk or a day of relaxation.
